Tracksuits are woven and technical-knit products with linings and hardware, which is why they cost more than fleece sets of similar weight. How is the cost split between jacket and pants?
The jacket carries 55–60% of the set price because of the zip, collar, lining and most of the embroidery. Track jackets run $18–$34 and track pants $15–$28 as standalone products, and many brands order jackets at two or three times the pant quantity.
What adds to the price of a tracksuit?
- Lining: mesh +$1.50–$2.50 per piece, jersey +$2–$3, taffeta +$1.50.
- Stripes: sewn-in $1–$2 per piece, piping $0.60–$1.20, sublimated stripes included in a sublimation run.
- Full sublimation: +$4–$7 per piece over plain dyed polyester, with no colour limit.
- Hardware: YKK #5 zip $0.90–$1.80, ankle zips +$1.50 per pair, custom pullers from 500 pieces.
- Custom-dyed shell colour: no per-piece premium but a 300-metre minimum, about 100 sets per colour.
- Rhinestones and heavy embroidery on velour: +$3–$8 per placement.
Why are tracksuits priced per set rather than per piece?

Worked example: 100 nylon tracksuits
Spec: 210 GSM crinkle nylon, mesh-lined jacket and pant, sewn-in contrast stripes, YKK zips with logo tab pullers, chest embroidery, elastic-and-drawcord waist, woven labels, hang tags. Factory price at 100 sets: about $46 per set, $4,600. Sample set: $130, credited. DDP air freight to Atlanta: about $1,000. Landed: $56 per set. Retail at $180 gives a 69% gross margin.
