Which fabric makes an oversized hoodie work?
Weight and drape. At 320 GSM, a 70 cm chest looks like a tent because the fleece has no body; at 400 GSM the same pattern hangs straight from the shoulder drop, and at 450–500 GSM it stands away from the body with the structure premium brands are known for. 100% cotton fleece drapes heavier than a blend at the same GSM. Which construction details hold the shape?
- Set-in sleeves rather than raglan, so the dropped shoulder seam is visible and defined.
- 8 cm 2×2 rib with 5% spandex at hem and cuff, heavier than regular hoodie rib, to cinch and recover.
- Side seams instead of a tubular body: tubular knits cannot reach a 70 cm chest cleanly and cannot take slits.
- Double-layer hood in full fleece so the scaled-up hood holds its shape.
- Bar tacks at pocket openings and side seam ends where the heavy fabric loads the stitching.
- Pre-shrunk, compacted fleece so the oversized dimensions survive the first wash.
How do you grade an oversized block?
Proportionally, not by adding a fixed amount. The chest grows about 5 cm per size, the shoulder drop stays constant, and the body length grows 1.5–2 cm per size, so an XS and a 2XL share the same silhouette. How does the sample stage dial it in?
We build the block from your reference or our house oversized block, sew one hoodie in the intended fleece, photograph it on a body and send it with a measurement sheet. You decide whether the drop is 6 cm or 8, whether the body is boxy or longline, whether the sleeve stacks. One revision is included.
